Now, let’s dive into our top recommendations!
The best areas to stay in Hong Kong with family are Tsim Sha Tsui, Central, Causeway Bay, and Wan Chai.
All four have excellent connectivity with the metro.
It’s incredibly important to pick a hotel that has a metro system close by. That way, you can easily reach every highlight of Hong Kong.
Most parts of Hong Kong are modern and come with incredibly convenient amenities.
Wan Chai is the only area that also offers Hong Kong’s remaining cultural heritage.
Below, we’ll break down each of these recommended areas in more detail to help you decide which is the best fit for your family.
Tip: Tap on the name of the area to jump directly to that section of the article for more information!
Tsim Sha Tsui: In my personal opinion, Tsim Sha Tsui is the ideal area for families as you’re located near several major attractions, as well as having the best connectivity in all of Hong Kong. I believe it’s well worth the premium price tag as you can make the most out of your stay in Hong Kong by choosing a hotel in this part of the city.
Central: Central is also a great option for families who prioritize connectivity. You have superb connections to the Airport Express, the ferries, and the metro, but also to Hong Kong Park and the Peak Tram. This area feels even more sophisticated than Tsim Sha Tsui. Central serves as the gateway to tranquil spots like Lantau Island and Ngong Ping 360.
Causeway Bay: This part of Hong Kong is known for being a shopping and entertainment hub. If you’re the type of family that likes to explore Hong Kong in the evening too, Causeway Bay is the area you’re looking for. It’s particularly popular for its shopping facilities.
Wan Chai: Wan Chai is the area where old meets new. The area offers local markets, traditional shops, and local eateries. But you’re also located close to the modern parts of the city. It’s a great area to find something more affordable, especially compared to areas like Central.
Tsim Sha Tsui is a popular area in Hong Kong, located in Kowloon, and is often considered an ideal place to stay for families due to several factors.
There are two major advantages when choosing this area as your base.
First of all, Tsim Sha Tsui is centrally located with easy access to many of Hong Kong’s main attractions, shopping districts, and cultural sites.
The second major advantage is its harbor views.
Many hotels in Tsim Sha Tsui offer stunning views of Victoria Harbour. Especially during the Symphony of Lights show, it is one of the most spectacular sights of the city.
But from a family perspective, it’s good to know that the area is home to several family-friendly attractions, including the Hong Kong Space Museum, the Hong Kong Museum of History, and the iconic Victoria Harbour.
The Avenue of Stars along the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront is a great place for families to enjoy a leisurely stroll while taking in the stunning views of the city skyline.
It’s also a popular spot for the Symphony of Lights, a nightly light and sound show.
Tsim Sha Tsui is well-connected with efficient public transportation, including the MTR (Mass Transit Railway), buses, and ferries.
This makes it incredibly easy for families to explore other parts of Hong Kong without much hassle.
Combining all of this you understand it’s such a popular area.
It’s a great choice for families who want to be close to the action and enjoy a vibrant atmosphere.
Just keep in mind that it’s also a pricey area.
If you want to be in the heart of Hong Kong Island, Central is the place to be.
This area is home to some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, such as the Peak Tram and the Mid-Levels Escalator, as well as a plethora of restaurants and shops.
Central, located on Hong Kong Island, is a bustling financial and commercial district that also offers several advantages for families.
Similar to the previously recommended area, Central is located close to many of Hong Kong’s key attractions, such as The Peak, Hong Kong Park, and the Zoological and Botanical Gardens.
Central is also rich in cultural experiences, with historical landmarks like the Man Mo Temple and the Mid-levels Escalator.
You also have spectacular views of Victoria Harbour and the Hong Kong skyline.
Central is a major transportation hub with easy access to the MTR (Mass Transit Railway), buses, trams, and the iconic Star Ferry.
The district often hosts cultural events and festivals, providing you with opportunities to experience the vibrant local culture.
The Central waterfront area offers a pleasant promenade for you to take leisurely walks, enjoy the scenery, and engage in outdoor activities.
As a transportation hub, it also provides easy access to Hong Kong Disneyland.
It also offers plenty of modern amenities, making it a comfortable area for you with well-maintained public spaces, healthcare facilities, and efficient services.
So far, so good. What’s the catch?
Well, Central is one of the main nightlife districts in Hong Kong.
While you don’t get bothered by it, it is an area that never sleeps.
If you prefer a quieter area, there are alternatives.
That being said, Central offers a lot of comfort and convenience and with public transport right at your doorstep, you can reach every corner of Hong Kong without much hassle.
Causeway Bay is the ideal area for families who want to combine sightseeing with shopping.
This neighborhood is simply a shopper’s paradise, with malls, department stores, and street markets galore.
The area offers a huge variety of dining options, from local street food to upscale restaurants.
Causeway Bay is home to various entertainment options, including cinemas, arcades, and indoor play areas, while the previous two areas also offer this.
Victoria Park, one of the largest public parks in Hong Kong, is located nearby, which is a great benefit as you can simply escape the chaos of Hong Kong quite easily.
Causeway Bay is well-connected with public transportation, including the MTR (Mass Transit Railway) and buses.
So for sightseeing purposes, Causeway is an excellent area and you have great access to shopping facilities and Victoria Park.
But Causeway is a bustling area, which can come in handy during festivals and events, but it also has a decent nightlife scene.
Yet, it’s not as bustling as the previously recommended area.
So, what’s not to like about Causeway Bay then?
It has fewer major attractions nearby. But that’s really a minor detail because public transport is simply amazing.
If you really want to stay close to the major attractions, you have to at Tsim Sha Tsui.
But yes, Causeway Bay is located further from those major attractions.
The last area that we recommend is Wan Chai.
It’s yet another excellent area to stay in Hong Kong Island as you are located near several major attractions and you have great access to public transport.
Families can explore the Old Wan Chai Post Office or the Hong Kong Arts Centre, or simply stroll through the bustling streets.
The Wan Chai waterfront offers a pleasant promenade with views of Victoria Harbour. Families can take enjoy nice walks and enjoy the scenic surroundings.
There are many similarities between these recommended areas in Hong Kong Island.
Wan Chai does have an even better connection to public transport.
There are two things that you need to know.
First of all, the nightlife scene is more vibrant than the previously recommended area, which means some parts can be noisy.
The other thing is that it lacks modern amenities, especially compared areas like Central
